An Explanation of Titles Earned
The Current Certification Process: 2005 and After
AWCI is the only organization to provide industry-recognized certification for watchmakers and clockmakers. An updated AWCI certification process and examination was implemented in 2005. All titles earned as a result of this updated certification have the suffix of “21” (meaning “of the 21st Century”). * These titles are:
WATCHMAKERS:
Examinations are assessed—and designations are awarded—by the AWCI Board of Examiners (BOE).
CW21™ – Certified Watchmaker of the 21st Century
CMW21™ – Certified Master Watchmaker of the 21st Century

CC21 ™ – Certified Clockmaker of the 21st Century

CLOCK MAKERS:
CC – Certified Clockmaker
CMC – Certified Master Clockmaker
