International Conference on Spare Parts Distribution for Watchmakers 2014
Hosted by the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute
The aim of this conference is to advance the art, science, and business of horology. The independent watchmaker today faces many challenges. The greatest problem facing watchmakers today is the difficulty in obtaining genuine spare parts from manufacturers.
We endeavor to bring individuals and companies representing all sides of this problem into the same room for an open discussion and workshop which will help move the horological industry towards a resolution of this problem. We will employ specially designed activities and workshop techniques to encourage participation from everyone and to help us address everyone’s concerns.
Authors are invited to submit papers via electronic mail to moc.icwanull@muisopmys by May 1, 2014. Submissions should address possible solutions to solve the “parts problem” facing independent watchmakers today. Only submissions which acknowledge the interests of all parties involved in the “spare parts transaction” will be considered for acceptance. Selected papers may be presented at the annual meeting of the American Watchmakers Institute to be held on August 23 – 24, 2014 in Clinton, Maryland, USA and/or published in Horological Times. Accepted authors will be compensated for their presentation and publication.
We encourage authors to think outside of the box, to put themselves in other’s shoes and to come up with unique and creative ways to solve the spare parts problem.
As this is a multi-faceted and international problem, submissions are encouraged from watch repairers, manufacturers, consumers, collectors, and any interested party both within the United States and across the world. Membership in AWCI is not required for paper submission.
Papers should be submitted with author’s name and contact information along with a brief biography to moc.icwanull@muisopmys.
