Who is making watches and clocks in the United States?

The United States has a long tradition of watch and clock manufacturing going back to colonial times but the industry didn’t really flourish until after the Civil War. Through the Industrial Revolution the American watch industry developed a system of assembly line manufacturing and interchangeable parts which allowed the United States to reign supreme in high quality watches that were affordable. From about 1880 until WWII the U.S. led the market for the production of high quality timepieces. At times even the Swiss were making counterfeit watches bearing the names of U.S. Cities and Manufacturers.

Today there are very few of those original companies left who still  maintain the tradition of American Horological Manufacturing but there is a strong desire for American made products and there are several brands moving into the market and succeeding once again at producing high quality watches and clocks in the United States.

Who are they?
