SUMMARY:Watch 175: Case and Bracelet Refinishing
DESCRIPTION:  \nPolishing a case today requires many skills. Complex case and bracelet designs are common in the marketplace. \nStandardized polishing methods were often not taught in watchmaking schools here in the U.S. until recently. Many watchmakers learned polishing by trial and error or observing the procedures of others. Today’s consumer has high expectations concerning the quality of the watch repair which includes the refinishing of the case and bracelet. Knowledge is the key. \nOur formal training program includes concepts and hands-on training in the following areas: \n\nCasing information\nCase and bracelet refinishing\nMetallurgy\nLathe finishes\nUse of modern variable speed polishers\nModern polishing techniques ensuring case shape integrity\nWater resistant testing\n\nThis course is designed to help you realize: \n\nA higher quality of service\nreduced come-backs due to moisture issues\nfaster turnaround time\nhigher customer satisfaction\n\nPrerequisites: Must be able to stand for long periods of time and operate machinery safely including the Lathe. \nLength of course: 40 hours in 5 days\, (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) \nCost $1345 for AWCI members $1495 for non-members \n  \nContact AWCI education director Jason Champion to register for this class at education@awci.com or 866-367-2924 extension 303 \n

He has an extensive web site at masterclockrepair.com. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Explore Watchmaking II
DESCRIPTION:Explore Watchmaking – Level II\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Escapement\nIn our Level 2 Watch Making Exploration remote workshop we study the escapement and the winding and setting components of the watch. Successful completion of Basic Watch I is required before registering for Basic Watch II. \nThe remote workshop is taught by one of AWCI’s certified watchmakers using the GoToMeeting platform. We provide most of the tools and materials and guide you through the process of establishing a temporary workshop in your home. Once you receive the classroom kit\, you will join a live digital classroom with no more than 5 other participants and will be able to ask questions.  \nWe want everyone to succeed in disassembling and reassembling the watch movement\, but we can’t reach through the computer screen to help you out. We have adjusted our in-person curriculum to give the best experience and the highest likelihood of success and we guarantee you will leave with a better understanding of mechanical timepieces. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \nRegistration can be found at the website below.  Choose if you want to purchase tools\, borrow tools or if you have your own tools.  Also there is an option for either a ST3600 Chinese movement or to upgrade to a Swiss 6497.\n \nhttps://old.awci.com/educationcareers/distance-learning/\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTechnology Requirements \nIn order to participate in a distance learning class you will need a tablet or computer with internet access\, a webcam\, and a microphone located near your workspace. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTestimonials\n\n\n\n\nAll in all\, well worth my time. The 4 hours flew by!  I look forward to more online courses and\, if I can\, to come to your facilities in person for more workshops.  Ideally\, I want to continue my education to a point where I can be a reasonable good watchmaker at least as a hobby.  We’re off to a good start! \nJames M. – New York \n\n\nThe remote learning Explore Watchmaking was an incredible experience. The class size was limited to five students so the instructors were able to follow each student very closely. The class was very well thought out and was tailored for students with zero experience\, yet moved at an acceptable pace for students with some experience like myself. The class covers the disassembly and assembly process in great detail\, focusing on how the parts interact with each other. There is no substitute to having someone experienced walk through the assembly process and answer questions along the way. \nRicci H. – Baton Rouge\, Louisiana \n\n\nThis class is perfect for the person that doesn’t have the time or the ability to travel for a course\, we all have jobs and family’s\, to experience what its like to be a watchmaker. Its an amazing class where you can interact with real watchmakers that guide you and through what it takes to service a watch movement in real time. The best part is that you can do it all without leaving home\, and in a time frame that anyone can fit into their life. If you ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a watchmaker\, take this course! You wont be disappointed. \nMike L. – Bedford\, New Hampshire \n\n\nAll in all\, well worth my time. There is no substitute to having someone experienced walk through the assembly process and answer questions along the way. \nRicci H. – Baton Rouge\, Louisiana \n\n\n\n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \nRegistration can be found at the website below.  Choose if you want to purchase tools\, borrow tools or if you have your own tools.  Also there is an option for either a ST3600 Chinese movement or to upgrade to a Swiss 6497.\n \nhttps://old.awci.com/educationcareers/distance-learning/

SUMMARY:Explore Watchmaking I
DESCRIPTION:Explore Watchmaking – Level I\nBasic Assembly\nIn our Level 1 Watch Exploration remote workshop we help you disassemble and reassemble the gear train of a hand-wound mechanical watch without having to leave the comfort of your own home. You will learn the names of the basic components\, their function\, and how all of the components interact. \n \nRegistration can be found at the website below.
