Arcane Watch Co, founded by Sam Mostad, will make its premiere as a brand on July 16, 2016, with a launch party and a Kickstarter campaign in the Bellevue/Seattle area of Washington State.
Arcane Watch Co. uses a 100-year-old pocket watch movement—the Illinois Grade 405, 12 size, 17 jewel, “The Autocrat”—with modern timing criteria. The cases are anodized titanium.
Mostad plans to sell $100 tickets to the party with proceeds going to Seattle Children’s Hospital. Three watches will be auctioned at the launch party, and half the proceeds of the auction will go to Seattle Children’s Hospital as well.
The party will also serve as the beginning of Arcane Watch Co.’s Kickstarter campaign. There will be eight touchscreen tablets at the party so guests can log on to Kickstarter and try out Arcane’s customization program. Buyers will be able to pick out the color of the casing, the color of the dial, the color of the hands as well as the design for the minute and the hour tracks of the watch. The watches range in price from $3,700 to $5,000. If a customer wants a watch skeletonized, it costs about $1,300 extra. Mostad says, “Unlike a lot of people who start their Kickstarter as the first thing they do, I’m doing the Kickstarter as the last thing I do. So, I’ve already got my working prototype; I’ve already got it to the point where I feel like I’ve got a final product.” Mostad believes he should be able to start into production relatively quickly after the completion of the Kickstarter.
The launch party will have a DJ, dancing, as well as food and drink supplied by local breweries, wineries, and distillers.
