Don’t learn the hard way! Forewarned is forearmed! Sign up for a lively 4-day, 3-instructor (Michael Gainey, CC21; Jerry Faier, CMC21, FAWCI; Andrew Baron, CC21) seminar in the beautiful Southwest, benefitting from a collective century and a half of personal experience with the most troublesome types of clocks and clock repairs.
Numerous examples will illuminate potentially hidden defects in common, everyday types of movements, as well as challenges to be found in less common movements that the unwary practitioner can be blindsided by.
This will be a rare, exciting and interactive forum presented by a premier group of some of the most seasoned clockmakers in the country. Students are invited to ask questions as each movement is described and shown, on screen and with physical examples.
Day Two will include a hands-on Wooden Works activity with dedicated slide presentation, in which students will disassemble and reassemble these early 19th century movements, while discussing their unique problems and challenges.
Students are also invited to bring their currently most challenging clock movements to the class for discussion and guidance. One example per student, please. For the Wooden Works workshop, students are encouraged to source and bring a “Terry patent” style 30-hour shelf-clock movement. A limited number of this type of movement will be available at the class, for a refundable $150 deposit, or outright purchase.
Whether you are already an active professional or plan to become more involved, this essential seminar will lay the groundwork for greater success by helping you to avoid costly mistakes in underpricing inherently problematic, or unexpectedly time-consuming jobs. Students will come away with a keener awareness of how to spot trouble in advance, and appropriately adjust customer expectations.
Class cost is $850 per student for the four day course, with a maximum of 20 students for the course. To register for the course, contact AWCI Office Manager James Sprague at james@awci.com or by calling 513-367-9800, ext. 301.
