Tom Schomaker presents Hairspring Manipulation Techniques at this year’s chronometer club seminar.
This class encompasses the basics of hairspring manipulations. Students will learn the fundamentals of hairspring straightening, correction of errors, leveling of the hairspring at the collet, and more.
The class will also touch upon truing the hairspring at the collet, safe removal, installation, manipulation, centering in the round and flat, regulator pins, and its effects on timing.
Tom Schomaker, CMW21 develops the curriculum and is the lead watchmaking instructor for AWCI. He has received brand-specific training in Switzerland, plus additional training on Rolex and Breitling timepieces. He has performed after-sales service for a Swiss manufacturer of complicated watches and operated his own watch-repair business before joining AWCI as a full-time instructor. He has provided watchmaking education and consulting for three of the largest independent service centers in the US.
